In my experience, it only happens if you let it go for several days. It doesn’t seem to happen super often & seems to be pretty random. But keeping up with it is the best way to make sure it doesn’t happen bc the weeds & such spawn consistently (unless, like the other commenter said, you have the golden clock). Got it. Well, generally speaking, if you get rid of the weeds they usually can't do any damage to your farm. But in all seriousness, a lot of people just cover the open land in wood or stone flooring to prevent the weeds and debris from spawning in undesired areas. You can put a 2x2 fence around a patch of grass, and the grass inside will be safe from animals.
